MEET CONGELAGOS

The project was conceived in 2015, but this journey began decades ago, fostered upon friendships and a burning desire to grow, and make a difference.

Nuno Battaglia and Jorge Grave were raised in Lagos, where they came to know the sea intimately, understanding that living off it requires hard work, patience, and grit. When Nuno returned home after 27 years abroad, having built a successful career in the United States, he arrived wanting to develop a project to revitalize the defunct fishing industry that once thrived here.

The place you grow up shapes you. I grew up here. The Sea was my home, my school, my temple. I must have been five or six years old when I put a mask on for the first time and jumped in the Sea. I was hooked! A passion that continues to this day.
The Sea fostered my curiosity, my ability to solve problems, to see new paths, to go farther, deeper. In the Sea I learned to see new opportunities—I learned entrepreneurship. In the Sea I made lifelong friends and business partners. And it was in the Sea where I developed respect for something greater than myself.

CGL goals 1
Operate a best-in-class facility within the processing and freezing fish and cephalopods sector, that can compete both nationally and internationally, using advanced technologies and efficient production processes, while promoting environmental sustainability.

Develop new and innovative products with superior added value, ensuring sustainable management of fishery resources, promoting the use of undervalued species, streamlining their capture, processing, and marketing.

Our Vision is to catalyze the competitiveness of Congelagos, ensuring that products, internal processes, and partnerships are implemented with the highest levels of execution excellence and sustainability through certifications recognized in the markets we serve.

The Congelagos culture of quality promotes adherence to adopted standards and conformity to established, certified processes, with a focus on:

ISO_22000-2018

ISO 22000
ISO 22000 is a standard developed by the International Standards Organization that specifies a food safety management system. Food security is linked to the presence of food-borne risks in products. Given that risks can occur at any point in the food chain, it is essential that there is a joint effort by all constituent parts in that chain with a special emphasis on communication between entities. Congelagos was ISO 22000 certified in Oct 2020, shortly after its first year of operation.
